I know precisely where I was and who was there with me that summer day in 1985 when MTV brought us LIVE AID from London then Philadelphia. And like so many of you worldwide, the band I remember above all others was QUEEN. The guys hadn't played for some time, and in fact Queen was rumored to have broken up....Freddie Mercury had even moved to New York City. But Bob Geldoff managed to convince the guys that Queen should play Live Aid. And so, four terrific musicians, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor took this moment seriously, rehearsing for a week prior to the gig and it shows. The surviving Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Prince all said no, Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones and joined by Phil Collins did play, but the rust was pretty evident. Queen, on the other hand, was ready. Here's one song plus audience participation and I get chills every time I hear the end of Ga Ga with the band.
